Day 45..

A trip to the National Sheep Association winter fair at Melton Mobray cattle market. Today we went on a 'field' trip to the sheep fair, where there were a number of stalls from all areas of the sheep industry, from handling systems and feeds to rare breed sales and shearing equipment. We collected a handful of information and booklets from various stands from lambing techniques to sward measuring and hopefully this will all come in useful for doms lectures and our practical sessions as well as assignment work. While at the show a number of seminars were taking place throughout the day, so we sat in on a guide to feeding pregnant ewes, fluke - the causes and effects on sheep, and scab - the risks and prevention methods. As we are now learning lots more about sheep, shepherding and general husbandry skills attending a show like this is a great way to enhance our college based learning.
